Competitors Kurtis Marschall, Australia, and Greek Emmanouil Karalis had no luck in China and were already outclassed at 5.90 meters.
The Swede cleared that height and then cleared 6.00 meters on the first attempt.
“Mondo” wasn’t done yet. First, he raised the bar to 6.12 meters and broke the competition record at the stadium in Shanghai.
There would be three more jumps for Duplantis, who raised the bar to the world record height of 6.32 meters. However, there were three unsuccessful attempts and the Swede did not set his 16th world record.
