Duplantis Sets New Stadium Record in Oslo Despite Cold Conditions

Armand Duplantis defied the cold and showed budding World Championship form three days before the Diamond League gala at Stockholm's stadium. The 25-year-old pole vault star improved his own stadium record at Bislett by over a decimeter – from 6.02 to 6.15 meters.

It was cold in Oslo on Thursday evening. This meant an extra challenge for Duplantis, who failed twice at the height of 6.03.

Pole vaulting can be difficult when it gets colder during the evening. It is difficult to sprint and run in the same way. But it was very nice anyway, says Duplantis to SVT.

The cold also meant that his first failed jump at 6.15 occurred in long tights. He simply forgot to take off his pants.

I put on as much as I could. I have learned to put on a lot in Sweden, he says after the competition.

Despite the cold, he still set a competition record twice (6.03 and 6.15) and ended the competition on his own. The previous stadium record (6.02) he set himself in June 2022.

On Sunday, "Mondo" competes in the DL-galan at Stockholm Stadium when the Swedish-American chases his first World Championship record in Sweden.

After three World Championship records last year, the 25-year-old has set one this year: 6.27 indoors in Clermont-Ferrand, France, in February.
