Armand Duplantis has been named the male athlete of the year in technical events by the International Athletics Federation.

His Olympic Games gold and world record during a crazy evening in Paris were not enough to win the title of male athlete of the year.

The prize instead went to sprinter Letsile Tebogo, Botswana, who won his country's first Olympic Games gold when he won the 200 meters in Paris.

The female athlete of the year became Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan, who won three Olympic Games medals, including an Olympic Games gold in the marathon.

A total of ten prizes were awarded in different categories and came after a public vote.
