The duo was elected in a vote by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) as the masters of the year on the men's and women's sides.

Armand Duplantis – who took Olympic gold in Paris and improved his world record three times during the season – received 603 points in the vote. Second was the Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic with 368 points.

Simone Biles was even more superior. The superstar received 703 points – second was the Spanish football star Aitana Bonmatí, who plays for Barcelona, with 337 points.

The gymnast took three gold medals (vault and team all-around as well as individual) and one silver (floor exercise) during the Paris Olympic Games.

Earlier this fall, Duplantis received the Bragdguldet, was named the world's best athlete by BBC, and was elected European Athlete of the Year. He also took European Championship gold at the beginning of the summer.
