On Tuesday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that Russian athletes will once again be welcome at the Olympics starting in 2028.
Armand Duplantis said he finds it difficult to understand the decision.
"Nothing has changed (with the war). It's only getting worse. I don't understand it," says Duplantis.
The Swedish Olympic Committee has also criticized the announcement.
"A very sad and unfortunate decision," said Hans von Uthmann, chairman of the Swedish Olympic Committee.
International federations can still oppose the IOC's line. The International Association of Athletics Federations has not commented on the announcement, but said as recently as July 3 that Russia and Belarus remain suspended from athletics.
