Armand Duplantis has written history – again. The superlatives replace each other to describe "Mondo". "Duplantis is a phenomenon", writes for example the Italian Gazzetta dello Sport.

That column meters have been written in Swedish newspapers about Armand Duplantis' historic evening in Tokyo may not surprise many. But the drama from the World Championship final has reached more than just those with blue and yellow hearts.

Even abroad, the superior Swede is being noticed. In Europe, where athletics has its strongest foothold, his success in Tokyo has been noticed in some of the largest newspapers.

Respected The Guardian states that the tension in the three world record attempts was "one of the greatest moments in the World Championship's 42-year history"

"A phenomenon"

British BBC calls the 25-year-old a "history maker" and one of "the greatest of our time".

Spanish sports newspaper Marca praises Duplantis as a legend and writes that Monday's world record "will go down in history".

Italian Gazzetta dello Sports headline for the evening was simple: "Duplantis is a phenomenon!"

In France, Renaud Lavillenie (eighth in the final in Tokyo) has made pole vault one of the popular events. But the Frenchman himself only gets one line in L'Equipes text about the final. "Duplantis is the master and the others only get crumbs" writes the newspaper about the circus around the Swede.

"Where is the ceiling?"

Even outside Europe, the various sports sites have picked up Duplantis' third consecutive World Championship gold and 14th world record. The combination of gold and record is hard to beat.

"Where is the ceiling?" asks the writer in Venezuelan El Nacional.

The two missed attempts before Duplantis finally cleared 6.30 built a tension that was hard to resist.

Australian ABC writes that the performance "was worthy of the sport's greatest showman".
