Sports journalists around the world voted the Swedish-American pole vaulter as the best athlete of the year. Duplantis received 1,182 points and Spanish world number one in tennis, Carlos Alcaraz, came in second with 784 points. French footballer Ousmane Dembelé, who was named the world's best footballer this year, came in third in the vote with 713 points.
Duplantis, who set world records four times this year and won World Championship gold, has already received several awards. Among other things, the BBC has named him the world's sports star of the year for the second year in a row. And he has been named both the world's and Europe's best male athlete.
Spanish football star Aitana Bonmatí was named the best female athlete of the year in the International Sports Journalists Association (AIPS) vote.
