The Diamond League season continues and on Sunday the world stars will compete in Stockholm when the Bauhaus Gala is held. The big name is, of course, the world record holder in the pole vault, Armand Duplantis.
"Mondo" is looking forward to competing in Sweden again and aims to break the world record at Stockholm Stadium - just like last year.
I feel excited and charged. I have high expectations for myself, so I hope I can deliver and do something special. It means a lot to me to compete in Stockholm, and I always try to put on as good a show as possible when I'm here.
Duplantis: “Always in my thoughts”
Armand Duplantis is, unsurprisingly, the favorite to win the pole vault competition in Stockholm. When he competed in China in May, he did just that, but missed the world record after three failed attempts. Most indications are that he will make another attempt on Sunday.
It's always on my mind. I need to feel good during the day and I'm in good shape, so the confidence is there. The weather also has to be good, so we're hoping for sun, warm temperatures and not too windy, that's important for us. But I've checked the forecast and it looks good, so I think there will be at least one attempt at 6.32.
The competition at Stockholm Stadium will be the third in his career with his new longer approach of 22 steps. The two extra steps took him over the world record of 6.31 in his own competition, the Mondo Classic in Uppsala, in March. But despite that resulting in another world record, he is still getting used to the longer approach.
It's new to me. I've only done it twice ever, as it's too far for training and so on. But it feels good, and I'll go for it. It just takes a good jump; that's the beauty of this sport.
