Denis Villeneuve has devoted the last eight years of his life to the "Dune" films. But "Dune: Messiah" will be the last, he explains in an interview with Vanity Fair.
The first film was released in 2021 and "Dune: Part two" had its world premiere in the spring. "Dune: Messiah" is the third film in the series – but according to Villeneuve, it's not a trilogy. The first two are based on Frank Herbert's first book about the desert planet Arrakis, while the upcoming film is a sequel that takes place twelve years ahead in time.
If "Dune: Messiah" is made, it will have been many years for me on Arrakis and I would love to do something else, says Villeneuve and explains that he has no problem with handing over the baton to a new director.
