The 31-year-old man who was extradited to Denmark from the United Arab Emirates has been detained by the Copenhagen City Court until July 9.
The man was arrested in Dubai and is suspected of having recruited young Swedish citizens to commit serious crimes in Denmark, according to the Copenhagen police in a press release. In total, it involves three attempted murders.
Denmark and the United Arab Emirates entered into an extradition agreement in March 2022.
According to Denmark's Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard (S), this is the first time a suspected person has been extradited from the United Arab Emirates to Denmark since the agreement was signed.
It is important for me to emphasize that criminal perpetrators should not be able to hide abroad and avoid legal consequences. They should be held accountable for their crimes, he says to the news agency Ritzau.
