There is a risk of forest fires in southern Sweden and grass fires in northern Sweden and Dalarna. It is particularly in connection with dry and warm weather, and we have had it in several places over the past few weeks, says Erik Höjgård-Olsen, duty meteorologist at SMHI.

A warning for risk of grass fires in the eastern parts of central and northern Norrland, as well as in northern Dalarna, has been issued by the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute. When it comes to the risk of grass fires, it's about the dry last year's grass. Even if it has snowed or rained, even quite recently, the dry old last year's grass hasn't absorbed the moisture. Only hours after rain, there is again a risk of fires breaking out, says Erik Höjgård-Olsen.

The risk of forest fires is high in large parts of Götaland and eastern Svealand, as well as on Gotland. But it's not unusual for the time of year, according to the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute. The rescue services in the affected areas urge not to light fires where it's dry, as the risk is high that the fire will spread.
