An adult who was taken into custody by police for intoxication was found dead while traveling in a patrol car and later died in hospital, police said.

The incident took place at around 8pm on Sunday evening, after the person was temporarily detained under the Act on the Care of Drunk Persons (LOB).

According to the police, there was a commotion in the car after the person became aggressive while driving, on the E4 near the Järva tavern in Solna. The police then called the alarm and stopped the car.

When the other police patrols arrived at the scene, the person was lifeless and CPR was initiated.

"At some point during that stage, the person becomes lifeless. Why is unknown. A forensic examination will be required," says police spokesman Daniel Wikdahl.

A few minutes later, paramedics arrived. The person was taken to hospital but died there, according to police.

The incident will be investigated as suspected misconduct by special investigations, an independent unit within the police that, among other things, is involved when police officers may have committed crimes.

Referring to that investigation, the police do not want to provide any more details.
