Macías, leader of the crime syndicate "Los Choneros", was arrested in June in a large police and military operation after having escaped from a high-security prison in Guayaquil in January last year. "Fito" was serving a 34-year prison sentence for, among other things, murder and narcotics trafficking.
"Yes, I accept", the man replied when a judge in Ecuador's capital Quito on Friday asked if he accepts extradition.
The court further noted that the extradition process can now begin. President Daniel Noboa is the one who ultimately must sign the documents.
In connection with the escape last year, a wave of violence broke out in the country. Armed men occupied, among other things, a TV station, while a few hundred prison guards and other personnel were taken as hostages.
The unrest led to President Noboa introducing a state of emergency and giving the military the task of striking down the criminal gangs.
In the USA, Macías is, among other things, suspected of having smuggled in large quantities of cocaine and weapons.
