The drone wreckage was found in Tulcea near the border with Ukraine, according to the department.
The circumstances are still unclear.
This is not the first time drones have entered Romania, which has a over 600 kilometer long border with Ukraine. Earlier in September, the defense department in Bucharest reported that a drone had violated the country's airspace in connection with a Russian attack on Ukraine. NATO country Romania responded by sending up two fighter jets.
Last week, the military gave the green light to shoot down unmanned drones and fighter jets that violate Romanian airspace.
