It was not until Saturday morning that we understood that there were two women and three children among the fatalities, said a high-ranking Pakistani police officer in the region.
In protest, residents laid out the bodies of the fatalities on a road, said the police source who did not want to give their name.
Pakistan is investigating whether any fighters from the Taliban group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were among the fatalities.
TTP is supported by the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.
According to Pakistan's police, seven Pakistani soldiers were killed on Friday in a suspected Taliban attack in the area. The drone attack was a direct response to the Taliban attack on the military.
The development shows the deteriorating situation in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa near the border with Afghanistan, where the extremist group TTP claims to have launched a spring offensive against Pakistan's security forces through "ambushes, targeted strikes, suicide bombings, and attacks". Since then, hundreds of attacks have been carried out against Pakistani targets.
