The police and other authorities are investigating a large area where possible wreckage was found. Rescue services, the fire department and the Armed Forces are participating in the search and response efforts.
The Latvian Armed Forces said sensors did not register the drone entering Latvian airspace, so no mobile warning signal could be sent.
On several occasions earlier in May, there were reports of drones in Latvian airspace.
At the time, the country's Ministry of Defense wrote, "As long as Russia's aggression against Ukraine continues, it is possible that similar incidents will occur."
