The US embassy warned on Tuesday afternoon of an imminent missile or drone attack expected in Zahran in eastern Saudi Arabia, where the US has a consulate.
"Do not come to the consulate. Take shelter immediately in your home on the lowest possible floor and away from windows," the embassy in Riyadh warned.
Several Iranian drones attacked targets in Saudi Arabia overnight Tuesday. Several of them were shot down, according to the Saudi Ministry of Defense. At least two hit the US embassy compound and are reported to have caused only minor material damage.
The Sunni kingdom of Saudi Arabia has raised its military readiness in a situation where the US and Israel's war with Iran is growing and involving more and more of the Middle East.
