Despite falling prices for gasoline and diesel, an electric car is still the cheapest vehicle to drive, according to the fuel analysis for 2025 by the industry organization Mobility Sweden.

The fuel cost for an electric car depends on the electricity price area and where the car is charged. Home charging in northern Sweden costs an average of 2.20 SEK per mile; in southern Sweden, 3.70 SEK per mile. The corresponding cost per mile for those who do not charge their car at home is 8.50 SEK.

Compared with gasoline- or diesel-powered cars, the cost per mile is several kronor lower, despite the price of both gasoline and diesel having fallen. In 2025, the cost per mile was 11.50 kronor for gasoline cars and 9.20 kronor for diesel cars.

The analysis is based on calculations from Drivkraft Sverige, the Energy Market Inspectorate and Statistics Sweden.
