Sweden got a dream start at the Women's Junior World Championship in ice hockey. The host nation Finland was defeated in the premiere in Vanda with 2–1 after overtime.

Great match hero became Frölunda defender Ebba Westerlind, who decided with a solo effort.

Westerlind skated free and finished a breakout by putting the puck between the legs of Finnish goalkeeper Kerttu Huja-Halkola.
