As recently as last week, Premier League club West Ham chose to get rid of Julen Lopetegui as head coach, and instead brought in Graham Potter.
In the premiere, however, it was a loss for the Swedish acquaintance, when West Ham fell in the FA Cup away to Aston Villa. But on Tuesday evening, it was time for Potter to make his premiere in the league game at home at London Stadium, and then it went much better.
West Ham defeated Fulham 3–2, after Brazilian Lucas Paquetá was offered the decisive goal. Striker Danny Ings stole the ball from away goalkeeper Bernd Leno, and Paquetá could easily roll it in.
Even the first and second home goals arose from sloppiness in Fulham's defense.
The win means that West Ham climbs in the table, to 12th place, and now has some breathing room down to the relegation spots.
Graham Potter got his breakthrough as a coach in Sweden and Östersunds FK, when he took the team from Division 2 to Allsvenskan, victory in the Swedish Cup, and a playoff spot in the Europa League. After his stint in Sweden, Potter has been coach for Swansea, Brighton, and Chelsea.
But when he left Chelsea in April 2023, he took a break from the coach's bench for over 20 months, until his return in West Ham.
