Kylian Mbappé has not shone as expected in Real Madrid after the move from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
Earlier in the week, Real coach Carlo Ancelotti said that Mbappé's "adaptation period is now over, but that he needed it".
He showed it directly against Sevilla. Not even ten minutes had been played when he cannoned the 1-0 goal from outside the penalty area.
It was Mbappé's tenth league goal.
Federico Valverde also scored a cannon goal from distance and Mbappé set up Brahim Diaz for the 4-1 goal.
Real Madrid climbed to second place, surpassing rival Barcelona, and are one point behind Atletico Madrid.
In Sevilla, legend Jesus Navas played his last career match and the 39-year-old was hailed as both teams formed a "guard of honour" before kick-off.
Navas made his 705th appearance for Sevilla and is now retiring after a career in which he won a World Championship gold and two European Championship golds with Spain and four Europa League titles with Sevilla.
