The number of people executed increased by 68 percent compared to the previous year, according to a report by the human rights organizations Iran Human Rights (IHR) and Together Against the Death Penalty (ECPM).
Hanging is increasingly used as a method of execution in the country, according to the report. 48 women were hanged in 2025.
If the Islamist regime in Iran survives the current crisis, there is an imminent risk that executions will be used as punishment "on a broader front and as a tool of repression," the organizations warn.
