Schimmelpfennig is one of the most played dramatists in Europe, and he is visiting the Book Fair in September to talk about the power of drama to reflect the present time. He calls it a "wonderful and bold project" to shed light on drama in Gothenburg's large exhibition hall.
"Theater means freedom and celebrates the playful human being, even when they fail. But above all, theater – and thus drama – is a place for dialogue, and dialogue is our civilization's most precious achievement", he says in a press release.
Schimmelpfennig has written around thirty plays, including "The Golden Dragon" (2009), "The Crack Through the World" (2019) and "Anthropolis I-V". He was named Dramatist of the Year by theater critics in Germany in 2024.
The theme of drama at the Book Fair has developed into a Nordic-Baltic cooperation, where all countries in the Nordic region and the Baltic States are represented.
