The death toll is rising after two charity events where people were trampled to death in Nigeria, the police announced on Sunday. Among the victims, who were caught under crowds that were desperate to get food, are at least four children.
In total, 32 people have died, 22 of them in the city of Okija in the state of Anambra during a food distribution, according to the local police.
Ten others have been confirmed dead in the capital Abuja, where a church organized a similar charity event to distribute food and clothing.
Both incidents occurred just days after at least 35 children died when panic broke out at an amusement park in southwestern Nigeria.
