Dozens of people have been killed in an Islamist attack in Borno State in northeastern Nigeria, local sources told AFP.

The attack took place in an area that has long been the epicenter of a bloody conflict between the Islamist militant group Boko Haram and the breakaway group ISWAP.

The dead were reportedly soldiers and construction workers who were returning to their base after working to restore a bridge that had been destroyed in another jihadist attack last year. Several people are missing after the attack.
