At least 42 migrants are feared dead after the rubber dinghy they were travelling in capsized off the coast of Libya.

Only seven people survived the wreck and were rescued from the waves, according to a statement from the UN migration agency IOM.

Among the 42 missing, who are presumed dead by IOM, are people from Sudan, Somalia, Cameroon and Nigeria.

According to the UN migration organization IOM, over 33,800 people have died in the Mediterranean since 2014 in an effort to reach Europe.
