The attack reportedly took place on Sunday and targeted a marketplace in the northwestern state of Zamfara.
The Nigerian branch of the human rights organization Amnesty International states that the death toll is even higher: at least 100 civilians.
The market is described as controlled by criminal groups.
In April, over 50 people, including many civilians, were killed in an airstrike on a market in the northeastern state of Yobe.
The military then launched an investigation to find out what went wrong. The actual target was a hideout for the jihadist group ISWAP.
