In Tokyo, both the Nikkei 225 index and the broader Topix are down around 0.9 percent after a few hours of trading.
In China, the composite index in Shanghai and Shenzhen are down 0.5 and 0.2 percent, respectively.
The Hang Seng in Hong Kong is down 1.2 percent, and the development in South Korea, for the Kospi index, is similar, down 1.1 percent.
