The Tokyo Stock Exchange is having a less good day, but price movements are well below zero. By lunchtime, the Nikkei 225 had fallen by around 1.3 percent. The broader Topix index fell by 0.7 percent.
In South Korea, morning trading has been even worse. The Kospi fell by about 2.0 percent at lunchtime.
In China, the situation is somewhat brighter. Shenzhen is down 0.9 percent and the Shanghai Composite Index is one of today's exceptions – with an increase of around 0.2 percent.
The Hong Kong-based Hang Seng is down about 0.4 percent.
