She was awarded the Ballon d'Or last year and was a major favorite ahead of this year's voting for the prize, which was presented in Paris.

In the French capital, Aitana Bonmatí had reason to rejoice again.

Barcelona's star received the award for the second year in a row – a repeat of what club teammate Alexia Putellas achieved in 2021 and 2022.

This is not something you can achieve on your own. I'm lucky to have players around me who make me better every day, she says.

Bonmatí is not only a key player for Barcelona, the 26-year-old is equally important in Spain's national team.

Over the past 18 months, she has won the World Championship and Champions League twice.
