The video game gorilla can be on the way to getting its own movie. Nintendo Studios and Universal Pictures have recently applied for copyright on a "nameless Donkey Kong project" which is described as a game film, writes NME.
Donkey Kong is also current in the game "Donkey Kong Bananza", which is released for Switch 2 on July 17. Recently, the gorilla also got its own area dedicated to it in Universal Studios theme park in Japan – and it also appears in the sequel to "The Super Mario Bros. movie" in April 2026.
Last week, Nintendo's CEO confirmed that the company wants to make movies and TV series of several of its games, including "The Legend of Zelda" which is released in 2027.
"Even if we cannot discuss our plans beyond 'The Legend of Zelda' film right now, we are working with various other projects", he says in a statement.
