"For me, it feels a bit like coming home and I am incredibly excited about this task. There is great potential here in Örebro," Filander tells the club's website.
Filander, 44, played four seasons for Örebro, 2008–12, and has been a junior coach at the club.
He most recently spent just under two seasons with Swiss club Biel-Bienne, where he was fired in January. Before that, he led Oskarshamn for four seasons in the SHL.
Örebro finished in tenth place in the SHL and were eliminated in the round of 16 by Luleå.
