Cuba has come under increasing pressure from President Trump and his administration on several occasions. In January, the president imposed an oil embargo on the country, which has also recently suffered two nationwide power outages.
Now, in a speech at an investment forum in Miami, Trump again emphasized that he wants to take over the Caribbean island, without specifying what he plans to do in detail.
He also dismissed concerns that he has lost political support as a result of recent US military actions in Iran and Venezuela.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated last week that any external aggressor would face “unbreakable resistance.”
