New customs games from the USA's president Donald Trump are stirring up the world economy.
Following Friday's announcement about shock-raised tariffs already in June, the value of the dollar fell to its lowest level since December 2023. During Friday, the dollar lost around 0.8 percent against the euro and over 1 percent against the krona. One dollar costs 9.51 Swedish kronor on Friday evening.
So far this year, the dollar has lost over 7 percent in value according to Bloomberg's index that compares the dollar to a basket of several world currencies.
The USA's finance minister Scott Bessent tells Bloomberg that he expects to enter into several large trade agreements in the coming days, but that message failed to dampen the currency's fall.
Bessent further says that he does not want to call the dollar weak and explains the situation by saying that it is rather several foreign currencies that have strengthened.
