Hadzic initially wondered if it was a wolf accompanying her on the run.
"At first I thought so, because it really looked like one. It was very big," she told reporters with a laugh after the race.
She wasn't really upset, though. Croatia was far from the final anyway. But it could have gone badly.
"When I'm out training and dogs see poles, they usually get very scared. So I didn't really know what to do when I passed him, because maybe he would attack or bite me," Hadzic said.
However, the dog was quickly taken care of - and also got his own finish photo at the finish line.
