Ronja, Svante and Alfons – all are names that are just as popular to give to children as to dogs, shows a review that P3 News has done.

By comparing the names given to newborns over the last 27 years with the names of dogs registered with the Swedish Board of Agriculture, it has been possible to establish that more than 350 names are almost as common among dogs as among humans.

Names like Ludde, Rex, Diesel, Dixie and Donna are most pronounced dog names, while for example Milo, Charlie and Luna are common both in the dog yard and on the school yard.

The most common dog names are Swedish- or English-sounding, but there are also dogs named Ali, Samir, Karim and Nour, even if the names are much more common among humans.
