It was in the middle of the second half of the international friendly in Odense on Sunday evening that the 34-year-old collapsed on the field.

During Euro 2021, Eriksen collapsed in a match against Finland at Parken in Copenhagen and has since had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implanted.

On Monday night, Eriksen opened up about the situation for the first time.

“Receiving a shock from the pacemaker has a major impact on both me and my family, but I want to be clear that this is a different situation than the one that occurred in 2021. I am doing well and rehabilitation has already begun,” he writes.

The Swedish national team – who are themselves preparing for the World Cup – have also heard the news. Defender Ken Sema says it was “food for thought”.

"You get a little food for thought about what you expose your body to every day, but at the same time we have a lot of people around us who are aware," he says at a press conference.

"I hope he feels better today and that he can continue playing football."

Shortly after Sunday's incident, Eriksen regained consciousness when the defibrillator worked as it should.
