The man has difficulty with eye contact and physical contact because of his autism. During a doctor's visit, the doctor demanded that the man shake his hand for the visit to proceed. The man refused and then left the clinic.
According to the DO, this is discrimination in the form of a lack of accessibility. They describe the man as having been “disadvantaged in a way that is related to his disability.”
The DO is now demanding that the doctor pay SEK 30,000 in compensation to the man. The Västra Götaland Region has until May 20 to decide on the claim.
