The 35-year-old former national team midfielder is outside the squad that Djurgården has registered with the tournament organizer European Football Association (Uefa), according to the club's website.
Injured Ekdal made a substitute appearance in the second round of the Conference League qualifiers last summer. However, he was dropped from the squad during the league phase when Djurgården impressed and finished fifth in the table.
A few weeks ago, Djurgården re-signed Hampus Finndell from Viking in Norway, which has increased the competition on the midfield. Finndell, on the other hand, is included in Djurgården's European Championship squad.
Djurgården, with new Finnish coach Jani Honkavaara, will face either Celje from Slovenia or one of the Cypriot teams Apoel, Pafos or Omonia in the quarterfinals, which will be decided with a double meeting on March 6 and 13.
