Djurgården crowned series champions after crushing win

Victory for Djurgården away against Kalmar meant a series win in Hockey Allsvenskan. Then the Stockholm team won with 6–2. Nice to win the match, nice to win the series, says Dif's Marcus Krüger to TV4.

Djurgården needed to win or take one more point than Karlskoga to secure the series win in Hockey Allsvenskan 2024.

And the team managed it without major problems after 6–2 away against Kalmar.

I think we start a bit slow but grow into it and score important goals at the end of the second and early in the third, says Marcus Krüger.

The playoffs begin next week, so it will be a brief celebration for Djurgården, who, with the series win, have home advantage in the playoffs. They will also get to choose their opponent in the quarterfinal series.

It's always fun to win – win the series, win the game, win whatever. So we'll enjoy it on the bus home, and then we'll load up for the week ahead, says Krüger.

Bik Karlskoga was the only team that could challenge for the win in the final round, but the series runner-up lost (3–5) away against bottom team Vimmerby and couldn't make it exciting.

Notably, Västerås (6–5 after penalties at home against Nybro) snatched the last playoff spot from Almtuna (1–4 away against AIK).

The playoffs:

Teams 1–10 in the Hockey Allsvenskan final table play in the playoffs. Teams 1–6 (Djurgården, Bik Karlskoga, Södertälje, Björklöven, AIK, and Kalmar) are directly qualified for the quarterfinals, and teams 7–10 (Mora, Oskarshamn, Nybro, and Västerås) play in the eighth finals.

The eighth finals are decided in best-of-three matches and begin on Monday as follows:

Mora–Västerås, Oskarshamn–Nybro.

The highest-ranked teams in the table have home advantage.

Before the quarterfinals, series winner Djurgården gets to choose their opponent among the four lowest-ranked teams (AIK and Kalmar, as well as the winners of the eighth finals). Then Karlskoga chooses their opponent, and so on. The quarterfinals are decided in best-of-seven matches, and the highest-ranked teams in the table have home advantage.

Before the semifinals, the highest-ranked team chooses their opponent among the two lowest-ranked teams, based on the regular season. The semifinals are also decided in best-of-seven matches, and the highest-ranked teams have home advantage.

The final is also played in best-of-seven matches, where the highest-ranked team has home advantage. The winner plays in the SHL season 2025–26.

Relegation playoffs:

Vimmerby (13th place) and Tingsryd (14th) face each other in the relegation playoffs in best-of-seven matches. Vimmerby, the highest-ranked team in the final table, has home advantage. The winner plays in Hockey Allsvenskan 2025–26, and the loser is relegated to Division 1.

They have finished playing:

Almtuna (11th place) and Östersund (12th) in the Hockey Allsvenskan table have finished playing for the season.
