"We are very happy that Marcus feels ready to play after this summer. It is important that he continues on our journey. He is a player who loves to compete and can continue to contribute to our culture," says sporting director Marcus Due-Boje on the club's website.

Krüger's four-year contract expired after last season and an operation this summer to get rid of his groin problems made his future uncertain. Djurgården has kept the door open for Krüger, who has been training on his own under the club's direction for the past two weeks.

Marcus Krüger won two Stanley Cup titles with Chicago during his NHL career and has won both World Cup gold and Olympic silver with Tre Kronor.
