The 37-year-old Serb needed four sets in the second round to defeat the Portuguese qualifier Jaime Faria. The set scores were 6–1, 6–7, 6–3, 6–2.

The match was Djokovic's 430th singles match in a Grand Slam tournament, and with that, he is the one who has played the most. He shared the previous record of 429 matches with tennis legend Roger Federer. On the women's side, Serena Williams has played the most – 423.

Regardless of whether I win or lose, I will always give my all on the court. I'm just happy to set another record, says Djokovic.

Djokovic is chasing his eleventh Australian Open title, and a historic 25th Grand Slam title.

Next, he will face Czech Tomas Machac in the third round.
