Walt Disney has announced that it will invest $1 billion (equivalent to just over 9 billion kronor) in OpenAI. The investment means, among other things, that users will be able to make their own AI films on Sora with famous Disney characters.

OpenAI launched Sora in September, which allows users to create short videos by simply typing in a prompt.

As part of the startup's new deal with Disney, Sora users will be able to create content featuring more than 200 characters from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars.

“The rapid development of artificial intelligence marks a significant moment for our industry, and through this collaboration with OpenAI, we will thoughtfully and responsibly expand the reach of our storytelling through generative AI, while respecting and protecting creators and their work,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement, CNBC reports.
