The European Parliament has voted overwhelmingly to support workers previously laid off by bankrupt battery manufacturer Northvolt. The money will be taken from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF), according to a press release from the Parliament.
The money will go to initiatives that help the unemployed find new jobs, education or start their own businesses. The support was voted through with 578 votes in favor and 54 against. 30 members abstained.
The Swedes were unexpectedly divided in the vote. On the yes side, members from M, L, S, V and MP voted yes. On the other hand, there was a no from SD, KD and C.
