The cutbacks at pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk mean that the Danish labor market has registered the highest number of layoffs in a year since the 2020 pandemic.
In the first ten months, there have been a total of 13,300 layoffs from 250 different companies, with Novo Nordisk accounting for the majority. Half of these occurred in September when the pharmaceutical company announced that 5,000 jobs would disappear.
During the 2020 pandemic, the number of layoffs in Denmark totaled 20,000.
