Ethiopia's national anti-doping organization has acquitted the athlete, writes Aftonbladet. However, the decision has been appealed by the anti-doping organization Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), which wants to see an investigation by the sports arbitration court Cas before she competes again.
"AIU has requested provisional measures that prevent the athlete from competing pending the outcome of the appeal. That application will be considered by the Cas division's chairman who decides whether Welteji is allowed to compete at the World Championship in Tokyo", says AIU, according to AP.
The Ethiopian athlete took silver in the 1,500 meters at the World Championship in Budapest and is one of the favorites for Saturday's 1,500-meter competition.
