The 48-year-old director, best known for the film "47 Ronin", received a large advance for a sci-fi series with the working title "White Horse", writes the BBC.
However, the project never came to fruition. Instead, Rinsch pocketed the money and used it to buy Rolls-Royce cars, mattresses worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, and other extravagant luxury items.
In court, Rinsch apologised and said he accepts his punishment, adding that it was all based on a misunderstanding.
Rinsch was convicted last year by a New York court of fraud and money laundering, among other charges. He faced up to 90 years in prison.
