Jessie Diggins has had a hard time focusing on skiing. What's happening back home in Minnesota is beyond her control. "It's been devastating," the American cross-country skier writes.

The overall World Cup leader came seventh in the sprint and second in the 20-kilometer mass start in Goms, Switzerland, this weekend, despite her head being somewhere else.

"This week has been mentally and emotionally challenging for many reasons," Diggins wrote on

“Above all, it has been devastating to follow the news about what is happening in Minnesota.”

On Saturday, a 37-year-old man was shot dead by federal police in Minneapolis, the second fatal shooting in the city in a short time in which immigration police, ICE, have been involved.

Diggins, born and raised in Minnesota, wrote that she gave it her all this weekend to “honor all the people back home who are working hard to protect their neighbors.”
