American ski star Jessie Diggins is ending her career after the season, the 34-year-old writes on Instagram.

In early October, Simon Caprini, competition director of the International Ski Federation, announced that Diggins would step down after the season.

Now she confirms it herself.

"I want to share with you that this will be my last season as a skier. It will be difficult to take a step away from this sport and this team that I love so much, but it feels right in my heart," she writes.

Diggins won the overall World Cup title last season for the third time and has one Olympic gold medal and two World Championship gold medals.

Her last World Cup competition is expected to be on home soil in Lake Placid in March.
