Diamond League Urges Fans to Leave Bags at Home for Stockholm Event

Diamond League event at Stockholm Stadium urges the athletics audience to leave their bags at home – even if the police may be able to lift the bag ban. It can become unnecessarily long queues if people suddenly would rush to our event and bring a lot of bags, says competition leader Jan Kowalski.

On Wednesday, the police announced that the national bag ban at larger events will be lifted. However, it has had different significance at different arrangements, depending on when the permit can be changed.

The organizer of Sunday's Diamond League gala at Stockholm Stadium – with athletes such as pole vault star Armand Duplantis – is preparing for a gala both with and without a bag ban.

We are waiting for a statement from the police. I expect to receive a statement today (Friday). Tomorrow (Saturday) we will issue a final statement to all visitors, says competition leader Jan Kowalski.

The appeal to the expected 14,000 spectators is the same, regardless of the police's statement, as bags would also mean more visits.

Our strong recommendation is to leave bags at home. You don't need to have them. If you have a special reason, you do. But we don't want unnecessary long queues here so that people risk being late, says Kowalski.

Events are not something you should run with bags on, it's for everyone's comfort and safety.

In May, the terror threat level in Sweden was lowered from four to three on a five-grade scale, which led to the bag ban being lifted.
